1. In memory of Qu Yuan

Today, the most well-known meaning of making Zongzi on Loong Boat Festival is to commemorate Qu Yuan. It is said that the patriotic poet Qu Yuan jumped into the Miluo River on May 5th in grief and anger when facing the pain of losing his country.

To prevent fish and shrimp from harming his body, people put rice into bamboo tubes and then into the river. This is the predecessor of Zongzi, that is, Guan Zongzi.

2. Drive away the dragon

During the Jianwu period, in a dream of a person from Changsha, a man named Boss sacrificed what the dragon ate. They need to be tied with mugwort and five colored silk thread, which are the two things that dragons fear the most. In this way, the dragon can be driven away.
